The smartphone market is highly competitive, with manufacturers continuously striving to offer innovative features at affordable prices. Xiaomi, a brand known for delivering value for money, has once again raised the bar with its latest offering, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 4G. Packed with impressive specifications and a versatile camera setup, this device is set to impress users on a budget.

Design and Display

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 4G sports a sleek design with dimensions of 165.7 x 76 x 7.9 mm, making it comfortable to hold and easy to use with one hand. The device weighs a mere 183.5g, ensuring it won't weigh you down during prolonged use.

The front of the device features a stunning 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, guaranteeing smooth animations and responsiveness. With a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a pixel density of approximately 395 ppi, the visuals are sharp and vibrant. Additionally, the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, safeguarding it against scratches and minor accidental drops

Performance and Software

Under the hood, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 4G houses the Qualcomm SM6225 Snapdragon 685 chipset built on a 6nm process. The octa-core CPU consists of four high-performance Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.8 GHz and four energy-efficient Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.9 GHz, delivering a balance between power and efficiency. The Adreno 610 GPU handles graphics-intensive tasks, ensuring smooth gaming experiences.

The device runs on Android 13 with Xiaomi's user-friendly MIUI 14 skin, offering a seamless and customizable user experience. Whether you're a casual user or a tech enthusiast, the Redmi Note 12 4G caters to all, providing a feature-rich and snappy interface.

Camera Capabilities

One of the standout features of the Redmi Note 12 4G is its versatile camera setup. The main camera boasts an impressive 50MP sensor with a wide f/1.8 aperture, ensuring sharp and detailed images even in challenging lighting conditions. The camera also supports phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), enhancing its focus speed and accuracy.

Accompanying the main sensor is an 8MP ultrawide camera with a 120-degree field of view, perfect for capturing stunning landscapes and group photos. Additionally, there's a 2MP macro camera that lets you explore the miniature world, taking detailed close-up shots of tiny subjects.

Camera Performance

The camera performance of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 4G shines in well-lit conditions, capturing more than decent photos with good enough quality considering its affordable price tag. With the main camera, users can expect sufficient sharpness and detail, delivering images that are pleasing to the eye. Colors appear natural, and users have the option to enhance them further using the AI toggle.

Daylight photos taken with the Redmi Note 12 4G may also exhibit some luminance noise, particularly when zooming in closely. While this may not be an issue for casual photography or social media posting, it might be noticeable for more discerning users seeking pixel-perfect shots.

When it comes to zooming capabilities, the 2x zoom mode may not deliver the same level of clarity as the standard 1x photo mode. Users may observe jagged edges, increased noise, and overall softer images, making it less ideal for critical photography.

The ultrawide camera performs reasonably well in daylight, capturing lively photos with pleasant colors and contrast. However, like the main camera, it tends to introduce noise, resulting in overall softer images. Additionally, some color fringing may be visible, especially in high-contrast scenes.

On the other hand, the 2MP macro camera may not be the device's strong suit. The images produced lack detail and exhibit low contrast. Additionally, the tiny sensor is sensitive to changes in lighting conditions, making it challenging to capture well-defined and vibrant close-up shots.

Moving on to low-light photography, the main camera struggles to produce impressive results, as expected from a budget phone. The overall image quality in low-light conditions is unimpressive, with poor dynamic range, limited sharpness, and excessively dark shadows. Noise becomes apparent, diminishing the overall clarity of the images. Colors may also appear washed-out, further affecting the overall image quality.

Unfortunately, the 2x zoom mode in low light fares no better, producing extremely soft and noisy photos. Even enabling the dedicated Night mode does not significantly improve the results, making it less than ideal for low-light zoom photography.

Similarly, the ultrawide camera's performance takes a hit after dusk, producing low-quality photos characterized by extreme softness, noise, and limited dynamic range. Regrettably, the lack of Night mode for the ultrawide camera further limits its usability in low-light situations.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 4G is undeniably a budget powerhouse with its impressive performance, stunning AMOLED display, and versatile camera setup. For its affordable price, it offers excellent value for money and is an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers looking for a feature-packed smartphone.

Whether you're a casual user or a photography enthusiast, the Redmi Note 12 4G can handle your daily needs with ease. With its strong battery life and snappy performance, it is a reliable companion for work and play. If you're in the market for a budget smartphone that doesn't compromise on essential features, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 4G might just be the perfect choice for you.
